The Efijy car is an homage to the classic Holden FJ built between 1953 and 1956, the FJ is the Australia’s icon car like the way a ’55 Chevy in U.S. EFIJY is a radical custom coupe shape boasting V8 Supercar power under the bonnet, Chevrolet Corvette underbody and state-of-the-art automotive technology throughout. A long-term dream for Chief Designer Richard Ferlazzo, the EFIJY concept was developed as a collaboration with suppliers which reduced impact on the company’s heavy work schedule and ensured the highest possible quality result for the showcar. The car is not intended for production.
The fiberglass body was inspired by the ’53 FJ, but it is a completely new coupe design. The ’50s styling cues, including the FJ-like grilleand general fender shape, incorporate state-of-the-art technology, suchas radical multi-element LED headlight assemblies that actually have acooling fan on the back of each bucket. All of the trim pieces were cutfrom billet aluminum and then polished to such a lustrous sheen thatthey don’t even look like billet.
The interior of the car is equally flawless, rendered in soft beige leather and screaming eggplant paint matching the exterior. Peer through a steering wheel—that is itself a small miracle—at the large, monocle speedometer at the bottom of a chrome well. Next to the speedo is a large dash vent sculpted, as the pedals are, of billet aluminum. Other than that central vent, the interior is remarkably free of clutter, as all functions are managed by a drop-down LCD screen concealed mid-dash that deploys just above the push-button transmission.
The 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine has been supercharged and modified by Ron Harrop, well known throughout the Australian automotive and motorsport industry and an ex-FJ Holden racer. Driven by a Roots-type supercharger, the engine delivers peak power of 480kW (645 horsepower) at 6400rpm and peak torque of 775Nm (560 foot-pound) at 4200rpm. Such performance figures are equal to the stated output from 2005 Series V8 Supercars, and almost 11 times greater than the 45kW (60 horsepower) offered in the 1953 FJ Holden. Efijy’s engine is mated to a rear-mounted four-speed automatic transmission featuring push button electronic control.
